Biography

Dr. Anirban Dhar received his Ph.D. degree from the Jadavpur University,
Kolkata, India in 2008 for his work on development of rare earth doped optical
fiber using MCVD-solution doping process. Dr. Dhar then moved to Institute of
Photonics & Electronics, ASCR, v.v.i, Czech Republic during 2009-2010 as
postdoctoral fellow. Dr. Dhar then joined Optoelectronics Research Centre,
University of Southampton, UK in 2010 as Postdoctoral fellow and continues
till 2012 before joining CSIR-Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute,
Kolkata as Scientist in 2012 where he is presently working as Senior Scientist in
Fiber Optics & Photonics Division. His main research area includes design,
fabrication and material/optical characterization of optical fiber for development
of various fiber based devices such as fiber amplifier, high power laser, fiber
based sensors, etc. He has worked on many important projects during his
postdoctoral stint and leads to development of multimode EDFA, Er-doped
multielement fiber amplifier, etc. He has published more than 100 articles in
international journals, more than 70 conference papers, 2 US patents, 2 Indian
patents, 5 book chapters and delivered more than 20 invited lectures at different
parts of world. He has received many awards such as MRSI young scientist
award in 2008, Postdoctoral Project award from Grant Agency of Czech
Republic in 2010, DST-ARRS bilateral project grant in 2015, and recently OSA
Senior Member award in 2019. Dr. Dhar is Life Member of Indian Ceramic
Society and Electron Microscopic Society of India.
